"This is the battle of the Cold War giants; West versus East. The CAR versus the AK. You think the US rifle has better accuracy? Then mod your Russian gear to gain an edge... and if the AK's damaged? No problem, a few tweaks and your CAR is roaring. This pack brings a new batch of mods to the market. This is one Arms Race you don't want to lose."

The Butcher's AK/CAR Mod Pack is the eighteenth paid DLC pack for PAYDAY 2, and the second weapon mod expansion, after the Gage Mod Courier DLC.

Customization options[]

These masks, materials, and patterns are achievement rewards. They can't drop during a PAYDAY and cannot be sold. Instead, they can be returned to your mask stash for free, but any non-achievement or Infamy reward pattern, color, or material as well as the customization fee to put these together will be lost.

"You want to know why I was so nuts over these dinosaur masks a couple years back? Ever since I was a little kid, I always wanted to be a dinosaur. Don’t laugh. Seriously, man. The idea that, once, long ago, these giant fucking lizards, tall as houses, stomped about the hood… oh man, what that did to this young kid’s head. Here are some of my favorites…."
Chains

  • The masks included in The Butcher's AK/CAR Mod Pack are named after the respective dinosaurs on which they were based, with the sole exception of the Alfred mask which depicts a Carnotaurus.
    • This likely hints at it being originally based on an Allosaurus before being changed to its current state. Coincidentally, the real-life Allosaurus also has bony horn-like ridges on the sides of its skull, though not as pronounced as those of the Carnotaurus.
    • The dinosaur associated with the Vincent mask is identified as a Velociraptor. This is factually incorrect as it is more structurally consistent with the closely-related Deinonychus genus of dinosaurs. The cause of this mistake possibly stemmed from the widespread moniker of said dinosaurs made popular after the release of the Jurassic Park series of movies and books. Like in the movies and books, the developers probably weren't aware of the relatively recent genus name change as the proper scientific term was only coined after the release of the third film in the series; Deinonychii were dubbed Velociraptor antirrhopus before the new name caught on.
      • Like in the movies, Vincent the "Velociraptor" is depicted as being featherless and has scaly skin as opposed to the bird-like feathers on real Velociraptors and Deinonychii.
        • Also incorrect is the depiction of this dinosaur's predation of the Protoceratops. While true Velociraptors indeed preyed on said herbivores, the Deinonychus after which the mask was modeled did not exist within the same period. The Deinonychus existed during the early Cretaceous period, while both of the aforementioned species came about much later (Upper Cretaceous).
  • The descriptions of the masks on the website are separate from those in-game. The website descriptions are also attributed to Chains.
    • Alfred: “You all know the T-Rex, right? The big motherfucker that could eat cars. Well, this dude is like that, except, give him fucking horns. They found this guys bones in South America. The lab report came back, and it tested positive for bad assery. The horns, man. Looks like a dinosaur Sith Lord.”
    • Pachy: “Now the Pachycephalosaurus is a personal favourite, and with good reason. I mean, look at that fucking bonehead. I’d pay all my money from the next hundred jobs to have the skull of this fresh motherfucker in my house.”
    • Timothy: “The triceratops ia one bad-assed motherfucker. Look at those horns, man. That’s where it gets it’s name from. It’s Greek for three, that’s the tri, cera, which means horn, and ops, which is face. Three Horn Face. How cool is that? Anyway, this guy will fuck you up.”
    • Vincent: “Now, the velociraptor. You’ll remember these guys from that movie. What was it called? I can’t remember, but it should have been called “Bunch A Motherfucking Dumb Ass Rich Kids Sit Around Eating Ice Cream Which Is Just Fattening Their Asses For The Baddest Beasts In The Jungle The Motherfucking Raptors.””

Weapon Modifications[]

AK[]

"The AK has its roots in the Second World War. Soviet doctrine called for an overwhelming force of firepower. They could waste bullets as they wasted lives. So, the AK was born. It is accurate and powerful. But, in the best Soviet traditions, it is spartan and austere. Easy to build, simple to maintain and virtually impossible to damage. The AK’s fearful reputation across the globe is well deserved."
—Announcement site quote.

CAR[]

"In the States, from the wildernesses of Alaska to the beaches of Miami, the CAR is a symbol. It is a symbol of democracy. It is the muscle in the arm of freedom. It is as American as apple pie. And nations across the globe have been force-fed a serving. With the CAR, you support American jobs – surgeons, insurance brokers and undertakers."
—Announcement site quote.

OVE SAW 72000 OVE SAW 72000
In the Nightclub job, complete the heist on any difficulty with each crew member using the OVE 9000 saw as primary and secondary weapons. Unlocks the "THRUST Upper Receiver", "THRUST Lower Receiver" and "Long Ergo Foregrip" for the CAR weapon family.

Note that this achievement can be completed by any number of players, as long as all human players are wielding saws as both primary and secondary weapons - it may therefore be best to bring AI henchmen to gun down the mobsters as rapidly as possible if going loud. The difficulty is not restricted, either, so the easiest difficulty can be chosen. Stockholm Syndrome basic combined with one of the saws lacking the Silent Motor will make it a little easier to complete the heist in stealth. To speedrun the heist in loud, one could complete it on Normal, saw open the security door, use Shaped Charges to open the safe and wait in the room for the pickup truck and escape van to arrive. Using melee will be easier to kill normal cops as specials enemies will be more absent on lower difficulties.

Hey Mr. DJ Hey Mr. DJ
In the Nightclub job, have 12 hostages or more on the dance floor when you escape. Unlocks the "Aluminum Grip" for the AK weapon family, the "Aluminum Foregrip" for the Krinkov submachine gun and the "LW Upper Receiver" for the CAR weapon family.
Note: Untied hostages will count toward this achievement if they are intimidated.

The achievement conditions consider intimidated civilians on the dance floor as hostages, thus it is not necessary to cable tie 12 civilians.

$1.8M Speedrun $1.8M Speedrun
In the Mallcrasher job, loot $1,800,000 in loose cash within 50 seconds of starting the heist on the OVERKILL difficulty. Unlocks the "Scope Mount" and "PBS Suppressor" for the AK weapon family, "Alfred" mask, "Dawn" material and "Dinosaur Skull" pattern.

There are enough ATMs in the entrance area and lower shopping floors to complete this objective with saws or ECM jammers. With 2 or 3 teammates on Overkill difficulty(8 ATMs needed) and a bit of coordination, each picking a side and 1 assisting the other, they can easily complete the achievement.

Here Comes the Pain Train Here Comes the Pain Train
In the Firestarter job, complete the heist on OVERKILL difficulty or above, with all days done in loud and with a crew of 4 players using unmodified "AK Rifle" rifles and "PARA" submachine guns. Unlocks the "DMR Kit AK.762" and the "Low Drag Magazine" for the AK weapon family, "Timothy" mask, "Prehistorical" material and "Dinosaur Stripes" pattern.

Both weapons must be completely unmodified, and the primary weapon has to be specifically the AK Rifle.
In turn, both weapons must be freshly bought, since removing bolt-affecting modifications previously applied to it will not restore the default bolt.

The Turtle Always Wins The Turtle Always Wins
In the Art Gallery job, complete the heist in stealth within 4 minutes with each crew member wearing the Improved Combined Tactical Vest and no Armor Kit deployable equipped. Unlocks the "Classic Stock" for the AK weapon family, "2 Piece Stock" for the AK and CAR weapon families, "Pachy" mask, "Fossil" material and "Prehistoric Predator" pattern.

Note that 4 minutes is roughly the length of a four-player ECM chain. From level 68 onwards it is possible to build for the ICTV and all the ECM jamming upgrades.

Private Party Private Party
In the Jewelry store job, don't let the cops enter the jewelry store until the van comes back on OVERKILL difficulty or above. Unlocks the "DMR Kit AMR-16" and the "L5 Magazine" for the CAR weapon family, "Vincent" mask, "Feathers" material and "Dinosaur Scars" pattern.

This can be done numerous ways, but the least obvious method is to take the vantage point asset and snipe from across the street. The police AI will not send them into the building if there are no players or hostages inside and the front windows remain intact.

As Twitch doesn't leave prior to going loud, Private Party can only be completed in open combat.

This method is best done with 4 players. To keep the cops out of the Jewelry Store is to have 1 player at the back defending one of the offices. Another at the right office and two at the front covering the entrance. It may be beneficial to have two Technicians with Sentry Guns and Trip Mines, these can be used to cover the back windows and help the other duo at the front. One of the players at the front should have Inspire Aced and the other player at the front be an Enforcer for maximum damage output. The randomly spawned container in the alley alley may benefit the crew in their attempt as the left-handed windows and office are completely blocked, meaning there will be one less entry/exit point to cover.

Note that the police will not enter via the sides if the windows are intact and closed. Cloakers spawning inside the store via overhead vents will not void this achievement, though they may complicate the situation if the crew is caught off-guard.

It is possible to solo this achievement holding the outside front of the store with a pair of sentries. Do not open or break any windows, and stay out front with the sentries.

It is possible to solo this achievement from the vantage point. Sentries can be used to take out police units over the edges, letting you focus on keeping the front door clear. Do not bring AI henchmen as they will run into the store and draw in the police; they may also break windows. Shoot the first responders; frequently shoot further responders to hold their attention, and pay particular attention to any police straying towards the front of the store. Be careful not to shoot out the store front windows. The police will not break the windows, so the front door is their only entrance, and it's easy to cover from the vantage point. (Video)

Hold out until the van comes back; the heist doesn't need to be completed to get the achievement, and like the other achievements it can be done without DLC ownership.

Trivia[]

  • Chains notes that he was "nuts over those dinosaur masks a couple years back", referring to the Beeef set of masks in PAYDAY: The Heist, which gave Chains a dinosaur mask.
