Gage Sniper Pack

The Gage Sniper Pack is the fifth DLC Pack released for PAYDAY 2. It was released on May 8, 2014, and is available for purchase for US$4.99 / €4.99 on Steam.

Features

The Gage Sniper Pack introduces three new weapons that introduce a new gameplay aspect: sniping. New sniper-oriented assets have been added, such as vantage points in several maps and the usable zip-lines to reach them.

The DLC comes with 4 new masks, materials and patterns for full customization.

The Gage Sniper Pack is the first content pack whose weapon mods, masks, and mask components (sans color) can each be acquired by unlocking its corresponding achievement.

• DLC-introduced weapon mods can be attached/detached at the player's whim, as long as the requisite achievements have been unlocked and the player has enough money to afford an installation.
• Likewise, the new masks and mask components brought in by the DLC can be returned to the player's stash if unneeded, though the crafting fee is lost in the process.

Vantage points

A vantage point is an unlockable asset on certain levels. Each vantage point is an elevated location that provides a good view for sniping, and is accessible via a ladder or zip-line. Vantage points are available on the following maps:

• Bank Heist (all variants, Firestarter Day 3): Building across from the bank entrance, via a ladder or zip-line from the bank roof.
• Election Day – Day 1: Sniper tower atop several storage crates, via zip-line from a crane.
• Firestarter – Day 1: Adds a ladder to a roof of the buildings at the beginning.
• Framing Frame – Day 3: Roof of nearby flat, via zip-line.
• Jewelry Store and Ukrainian Job – Building opposite the store, via ladder.
• Rats – Day 1: Roof of the cook house, accessible by a zip-line on a tree near the van pickup.
• Rats – Day 3: Tower on the side of the bridge, via ladder or zip-line.
• Big Bank - Day 1: Crane via zip-line on the roof.

Zip-lines are now present on any map for which a vantage point asset has been purchased. Players can travel both ways on a zip-line in most cases, but going down is much faster than going up. Players can carry bags and shoot from the zip-lines, but cannot look down sights or scopes. If law enforcers are near, any player on the zip-line is an easy target.

Weapon modifications

Additionally, unique modifications have been added for the sniper rifles. Unlike other mods, these must be unlocked by completing certain feats of skill (unlocking each mod earns an achievement, and the requirements are listed both in the mod inventory and on the achievement descriptions). The most useful mods are:

1. Angled Sight – an iron sight mounted at a 45 degree angle to the main sight or scope. Far more effective at short ranges than a scope. This mod is mounted as a gadget: pressing the gadget key (Q on PC) toggles which sight the player uses when looking down their sights. Pressing it once switches from the standard sight to the Angled one, and another press switches back. The key does not need to be held.
2. Theia Magnified Scope – has a far higher magnification than any other sight mod in the game. Has a rangefinder (on the scope and in zoom view) accurate up to 200 meters. More importantly, while in stealth the Theia will tag any unit touched by its reticle, and once the alarm has sounded it will auto-tag special enemies. This makes it easier to spot enemies, kill patrolling enemies behind walls in stealth (with a suppressor) to support teammates inside buildings, and if going loud allows the player to see enemy silhouettes behind shields, allowing for easy head shots.

Note: The suppressors for the sniper rifles reduce the damage for each weapon by 16-22% depending on the rifle in question. A Ghost with the first level of Silent Killer will suffer minimal damage reduction when suppressing a rifle, and with Silent Killer aced the ghost will actually deal more damage than an unsuppressed sniper rifle.

Masks

Asilidae

The Asilidae, also known as robber fly or assassin fly, are powerfully built, bristly flies who are known for their notoriously aggressive predatory habits. They feed on other insects and as a rule, they wait in ambush and catch their prey in flight.

Sphodromantis

The common name for these lovely little fellows is "praying mantis". The reason? It refers to the prayer-like posture where it folds its fore-limbs. More commonly however it's refered to as the preying mantis, because of it's nature.

Basically, they eat anything they can successfully capture and devour.

Tarantula

Eight legs strong, tarantula sizes range from as small as a fingernail to as large as a handgun when the legs are fully extended. The name originally comes from the name Lycosa tarantula, a species of wolf spider. Tarantulas generally hunt in trees, on or near the ground. They're also popular as pets.

Vespula

Two pairs of wings, an ovipositor or stinger, no thickened hairs and a pair of talons. That's the wasp for you. Almost every pest insect species has at least one wasp species that preys upon it or parasitizes it. This makes the wasps very important in natural control of their numbers.

Ownership required

Far, Far Away Kill 25 enemies from 40 meters using only the Thanatos .50 cal sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Tank Buster Barrel for the Thanatos .50 cal sniper rifle.

Last Action Villain Perform a headshot kill on enemies using only the R93 sniper rifle while zip lining. Completing this achievement will unlock the Compensated Suppressor for the R93 sniper rifle.

Maximum Penetration Kill 10 Shields by shooting through their shields using only the R93 sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Short Barrel for the R93 sniper rifle.

Dodge This Perform 10 headshot kills on Cloakers using only the Thanatos .50 cal sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Suppressed Barrel for the Thanatos .50 cal sniper rifle.

Surprise Motherfucker Kill 10 Bulldozers using only the Thanatos .50 cal sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the CQB Barrel for the Thanatos .50 cal sniper rifle.

Return to Sender Kill 25 Snipers using only the Rattlesnake sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Tactical Aluminium Body for the Rattlesnake sniper rifle.

You Can’t Hide Kill 25 enemies shooting through walls or objects using only the R93 sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Wooden Body for the R93 sniper rifle.

Double Kill Kill 2 enemies with one bullet 25 times using only the Rattlesnake sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Sniper Suppressor for the Rattlesnake sniper rifle.

Public Enemy No. 1 Kill 250 enemies using only the Rattlesnake sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Long Barrel for the Rattlesnake sniper rifle.

Achievable without owning DLC
These can be achieved with any sniper rifle in the game, including the non-DLC Platypus 70.

Lord of the Flies Perform 50 headshot kills using any sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the “Asilidae” mask, “Carapace” material and “Bugger” pattern.

Arachne’s Curse Perform 100 headshot kills using any sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the “Tarantula” mask, “Insectoid” material and “Spider Eyes” pattern.

Pest Control Perform 250 headshot kills using any sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the “Vespula” mask, “Bug Shell” material and “Venomous” pattern.

Seer of Death Perform 500 headshot kills using any sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the “Sphodromantis” mask, “Hard Shell” material and “Wings of Death” pattern.

Triple Kill Kill 3 enemies with one bullet using any sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Angled sight for all sniper rifles.

Didn’t See That Coming Did You? Kill 10 enemies using any sniper rifle while zip lining. Completing this achievement will unlock the Theia Magnified Scope for sniper rifles.

Didn’t See That Coming Did You? Kill 10 enemies using any sniper rifle while zip lining. Completing this achievement will unlock the Theia Magnified Scope for sniper rifles.

Methods for completing the achievement

The easiest way to get the achievement is to modify a sniper rifle with a laser sight and play a heist with a zip line on normal difficulty with no companions, be they other players or AI. Several heists have a zip line added if the Vantage Point asset is purchased.

As you do not need to complete a contract for achievement progress to register, if you die during the heist you can simply restart it and carry on until you have the requisite 10 kills. Nonetheless it may be wise to carry a medical bag or ammo bag with you.

Bank Heist

This is probably the easiest heist on which to get this achievement (except for the White Xmas Heist)

The vantage point asset gives a zip line from the roof of the bank to the higher roof of a building across the street, and a second zip line in the reverse direction. If you find shooting enemies in the street to be difficult, they will eventually climb up to the two roofs where they will be easier to kill as you approach them.

Note that the zip line from the higher roof to the lower is considerably faster than the opposite direction, and will give little time to make shots.

Rats/Cook Off

The Vantage Point asset gives a zip line from the starting point to the roof of the meth house. Several Mendoza hostiles will spawn outside the building.

To return to the ground, you can jump from the roof to the balcony on the opposite side of the zip line and from there either go down the stairs or jump to the adjacent shed roof and from there to the ground. You can also jump from the roof of the house directly to the shed roof on the same side of the building as the zip line, and then from there to the ground.

White Xmas

The White Xmas Heist contains many zip lines and lots of enemy will spawn, making it extremely convenient to grind for kills on zip lines in this heist. However, the zip-lines' high speed may require some practice to be accustomed to.

One of the easiest ways to get the achievement is to modify an R93 with a laser sight and play Rats on normal with no companions, be they other players or AI. Purchase the Vantage Point asset and you'll get a zipline leading up to the roof of the meth house. Several Mendoza hostiles will spawn outside the building. Properly specced, you can jump from the roof to the roof of the shed and then drop down to the ground if you miss on your first ride. As you do not need to complete a contract for achievement progress to register, you can simply restart the mission until you have the achievement.

Another very easy way to get this achievement is to use a laser sight and play Bank Heist. Purchase the Vantage Point asset and use the two-way zipline to move across the street while shooting at enemies below you. Alternatively, wait for an enemy to climb the ladder from the alleyway to the vantage point, and shoot at his head when you approach the vantage point on the zipline. It is easier to use the zipline that goes from the bank roof to the vantage point for this achievement as it travels much slower. If you fail to kill an enemy with the headshot, simply take the other zipline back to the bank roof and try again.

You Can’t Hide Kill 25 enemies shooting through walls or objects using only the R93 sniper rifle. Completing this achievement will unlock the Wooden Body for the R93 sniper rifle.

One could take advantage of the cars seen in numerous heists, such as in Hoxton Breakout Day 1, as you can generally see through them but they are thin enough that snipers can punch right through them.

Another method for the achievement would be to use the advantage point on Rats day 3, as the railings on the tower count as wall but can be shot through and seen through.

Finally, one could mark special enemies or guards and then run around to the other side of the nearest, thinnest wall/object.

• Lord of the Flies is a reference to the novel of the same name.
• Far, Far Away achievement is a reference to the 1939 movie The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
• Last Action Villain is a reference to the 1993 film Last Action Hero.
• Dodge This is a line from The Matrix, which Trinity says just before killing an agile opponent with a headshot, similar to the achievement but with a Thanatos .50 cal.
• Surprise Motherfucker is the catchphrase and one of the famous lines of James Doakes, a character from the TV series Dexter.
• Build Me an Army Worthy of Crime.net is a reference to a quote in the film The Lord of the Rings.
• The Man with the Golden Gun is a reference to the James Bond novel and film of the same name.
  • The number of Skulldozer kills required for the achievement references the number of people killed by the user of the Golden Gun, Francisco Scaramanga, in the novel and the film: 6.
