A thoroughly modern 5.56mm assault rifle, made in Europe. Short, lightweight and reliable, the perfect trade-off between power, range and handling. Comes with custom stocks, grips, foregrips, barrels and body.
The Commando 553 is the first primary weapon that was added post-launch to the game and is available for purchase at any level if the player has the Armored Transport DLC. This makes it a great choice for low-level players.
The Commando 553 has a relatively high ammo capacity and base damage for an assault rifle, as well as a high base concealment. A large number of modifications are available for it, but most of them reduce concealment and only two increase it (one added by the Gage Mod Courier DLC). As a result, it becomes a reasonable choice for stealth missions.
When fully modified. the Commando 553 can be a great weapon for offensive missions, performing similarly to the AMR-16, but with much more ammo. In terms of stability, accuracy and ammo capacity, when unmodified, it is similar to the CAR-4.
The default iron sights are very closed and obscure most of a target. Even with such low recoil, this makes aiming very difficult without a sight modification. The rate of fire for the Commando 553 is lower than the AMR-16, lowering the DPS, but making ammo conservation easier.
One of its flaws is its low accuracy. At longer distances, it can be difficult shooting snipers or thinning out assault waves before they reach the player. As most of its modifications only improve stability, it may be a good idea to have a high-accuracy secondary when using this weapon. However with with all of the DLCs it is possible to make it an extremely accurate weapon but doing so severely compromises concealment.
The Commando 553 also has the fastest reload of any assault rifle (since the First Person Animation update) at 1.65s for a tactical reload and 2.4s for a full reload. With Kilmer basic, these values can be reduced to 1.3 and 1.9s respectively, bringing it close to the reload times of most SMGs (even with the SMG Specialist skill).
Cheap and has no level restriction, good for new players or those re-ranking after going Infamous
Well-balanced statistics, performs well in most situations
High concealment, especially with Wide Stock and Heat Treated Body
Fastest base reload of any assault rifle
With the skills Specialized Killing and The Professional in conjunction with The Bigger the Better Suppressor the Commando 553 can be made comparable to other assault rifles but with a much larger ammo pool.
Has the largest ammo pool and ammo pickup rate of any assault rifle with the JP36 and the Clarion.
This build increases all combat related values to increase the effectiveness of the Commando 553 with low damage (39, 40.9 with Fast and Furious), low but usable accuracy (56) and decent stability (76).
The Commando 553 can be modified to become a highly concealable weapon; available at level 0, useful for players about to go Infamous, with just two modifications bringing its concealment to 27. However it has a terrible accuracy rating of 8 severely limiting the weapon's utility outside of close quarters combat.
Without hampering concealment either a Low Profile Suppressor or Stubby Compensator can be fitted at the player's choice. The biggest drawback of this build it arguably the terrible standard ironsight on the Commando 553 (see above) as replacing it will reduce concealment by at least 1.
Although the main flashlight has a toggle switch, the laser sight component of the LED Combo is pressure-activated, meaning the laser will stay on as long as the pressure switch is depressed. This switch is not placed where it should be, however (on foregrips, magazine wells, etc...) and is instead ziptied to the main taclight, leaving no plausible mean for the user to toggle it without awkwardly moving their off hand off the weapon and gripping the attachment itself.
Requires a pre-installed sight mod to mount. The magnification level can be changed while aiming down the sights, and the aiming FOV will automatically adjust itself. Not compatible with the Acough Optic, Military Red Dot, Milspec Scope, Combat Sight, Reconnaissance Sight, Theia Magnified Scope, Box Buddy Sight, the JP36's Original Sight, the Raven's Flip-up Sight or the GROM and Platypus 70's iron sights. Currently bugged and not appearing as intended on certain weapons, for a list see here. They're still listed below even if broken.
Upon release, the default reticle of this sight was a chevron instead of the retail version's red dot. After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot.
It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag.
This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. While it is portrayed as a high-zoom scope in-game, the CompM2 is actually a reflex sight, meaning it offers no magnification in reality.
Visually speaking, the War-Torn Stock is just a Wide Stock with a few miscellaneous items bound to it by a black cable tie.
Judging by the name and its ramshackled appearance, the War-Torn Stock is likely a broken product through repeated use that was salvaged with spare parts, thus would justify its inability to keep the weapon steady during fire.
The Commando 553 is based on the SG 552 Commando or more specifically, the SG 552-2 as evidenced by its permanent flip-up ironsights system. With the Long Barrel the Commando becomes the SG 552-2 LB.
Its name, however, suggests a closer resemblance to the SG 553, which is essentially an upgraded SG 552 whose looks can be roughly replicated in the game by equipping the Railed Foregrip onto the Commando.
The SG 552's integral 3-round burst fire mode is not usable in the game, despite the fire-selector block visually displaying the option.
It is the only assault rifle in the game to not get any benefit from equipping the Tactical Stock. All equipping the stock does is making the gun harder to conceal.
Printed underneath the bolt compartment of the Commando are the words "Restricted for law enforcement only". This is easier to notice with the Heat Treated Body equipped.
